The Afya Foundation

  |

 EDT

The Afya Foundation is providing personal protective equipment (PPE) for healthcare workers at over 100 healthcare facilities in the New York area. We source, coordinate, and distribute vital protective gear to hospitals, federally qualified health centers (FQHCs), community agencies, and emergency response teams.

The Afya Foundation has been on the frontlines, responding to crises for 11 years. We deliver necessary medical equipment and supplies to those experiencing natural disasters, conflict, and other disruptions to healthcare systems. The crisis is now in our backyard as COVID-19 threatens our community and those who protect us.

Since the start of the crisis, Afya has delivered over 100,000 masks and over 20,000 pounds of protective equipment and medical material to healthcare workers at various facilities, including over 15 FQHCs and 40 community agencies.

But the need for protective equipment is still urgent and great. During this emergency, the most vulnerable healthcare facilities are overrun and under-equipped. Many facilities such as nursing homes, homeless shelters, and community health centers still lack necessary protective equipment, leaving healthcare workers exposed and in danger. We are here to protect those who serve our community and work tirelessly through this pandemic.

Leah Dixon

  |

12:00 pm

 EDT

Leah Dixon builds sculptures and spatial interventions that address mythologies which have shaped my consumption of socio-political events as an American woman. Her work culminates in sculptures that address the space where bodies and architecture collide - fallen monuments, games, the military, nightlife and other public meeting places. I build all of my work by hand via labor-intensive processes - resulting in geometric material protests that question historical accuracies, and national propaganda.

Leah Dixon has also curated artists to include their works overlaid on the live stream

Earth Boys

  |

3:30 pm

 EDT

"The Brooklyn duo draw from classic '90s house on this fun, upbeat full-length. I first saw Earth Boys this summer midway through a 14-hour techno party in New York called Fourth World. By the dimly lit patio dance floor of Sugar Hill Disco, not far from a yurt where ambient music was being played, one of the duo, Michael Sherburn, played warm, jazzy grooves from a blinking table of electronic gear. Beside him was the saxophonist Jeff Hackworth, wearing a black button-down as he jammed over the beats. The crowd of Brooklynites, wearing trendy sunglasses and sling bags, danced joyously around the group's floor-level table set-up. Though this was ostensibly a techno party, Earth Boys' early-evening set delivered the unpretentious vibe often heard in '90s house. That's the sound you'll hear on their debut album, eBoys. Sherburn and his production partner, Julian C. Duron, are pals with roots in Brooklyn's creative underground. Their music has landed on house labels with a mellow, melodic sound: 1080p, Let's Play House, 2MR and Public Release, the label releasing eboys. The LP is a smooth and occasionally trippy house record filtered through the group's freewheeling style and Hackworth's high-pitched sax playing. Sherburn and Duron seem especially inspired by Masters At Work, and several shades of the duo's sound surface on eboys."

– Resident Advisor

Earth Boys have 12" releases on 1080P Collection, Let's Play House, 2MR, Public Release, and Growth in Decay Recordings

Blonder

  |

5:30 pm

 EDT

Mixing elements of classic post-punk, brighter synth pop, and 21st century indie rock, Blonder is the project of Long Island native Constantine Anastasakis. The New Yorker set about teaching himself guitar and Ableton only after college, and started churning out songs while recovering from a subsequent bicycle accident. Working with production help from Aaron Maine (Porches) and Waylon Rector (Talk in Tongues), among others, he released the singles "Lean" and "Talk to Me" in 2016, with "In and Out" following in April 2017. Inspired by an ill-fated romance, all three songs appeared on Blonder's debut EP, $5, released that June with 300 Entertainment. Meanwhile, he toured the U.S. and Canada with a backing band that included members of Guards and Wet. ~ Marcy Donelson, Rovi

Ana B

  |

7:30 pm

 EDT

Born and raised in post-Soviet Ukraine, DJ  Ana B developed a strong connection to the Kiev 'underground rave' scene early on. In 2012 she moved to New York and the timing couldn't be better; with a stagnant club scene contrasting the city's own emerging rave culture, she found the desire to take the reins herself. Now a fixture in nightlife, Bobrovska's blend of Eastern European techno with gritty and dark bass-driven Brooklyn sound  brings a frenetic energy that's surging through club speakers and shaking up the sound of downtown.

Malkam

  |

9:30 pm

 EDT

In an era where creativity and originality are under appreciated, Malkam, a 24 year old Jamaican artist based in NYC, is sticking to his plan and trusting the process. Delivering content that is 100% curated by him, he shows off his balance in word play and evolving beat making abilities. Diversity is one of the biggest characteristics of his art. In addition to producing, engineering, and rapping he also owns his own clothing brand, (BabyBoy), in which every piece of clothing is customized and handmade.
Born & raised in Jamaica, Malkam was traveling between Kingston and NYC from the age of 4 and eventually moved to NYC at the age of 13 due to the rise in violence in his community Swallowfield. Because of this his work draws influences from both dancehall, and American hip-hop and R&B. Malkam was the fourth of nine children on his dad's side and second of three on his mom's.

Umru

  |

10:00 pm

 EDT

NYC-based 20-year-old producer umru appeared almost out of nowhere in the pop music world with his first production credit on Charli XCX's landmark 2017 mixtape Pop 2, recruited at 18 by PC Music founder A. G. Cook to co-produce one of the mixtape's highlight tracks, ‘I Got It'. The release quickly brought umru from high school and the Soundcloud beat scene to DJ sets at Charli XCX's tour afterparties across the US and Europe and collaborations with some of pop music's most experimental and forward-thinking acts. The release of his debut EP search result on PC Music revealed his strength in merging intense, bass-heavy production with both catchy and melancholy performances from a talented lineup of underground pop vocalists including Laura Les and Lewis Grant. The EP was followed by three sold out 'search party' events across the US. umru's most recent production work includes XCX's 2019 album Charli and Dorian Electra's debut album Flamboyant. umru's music has been heard on BBC Radio 1 and Beats 1 Radio and featured on Billboard, Paper Magazine and Hypebeast, his style being described as “boundary-pushing” and “insanely addictive.”

Visuals - One Night Only [2020]: by Adrian Yu and Daniel Mangosing.

One Night Only

2020

Adrian Yu and Daniel Mangosing

One Night Only is a collaboration between artists Adrian Yu and Daniel Mangosing, born out of a historical investigation of parallel stories of spectacle & oppression within the Chinese and Filipino diaspora. The piece marries the stories of Afong Moy and the Igorrotes of Coney Island, both examples of exhibitions where viewers could pay nickels to view human sculptures that fed upon the American lust for Orientalism as spectacle. Reimagined as monsters inspired by Chinese and Filipino mythology, the animation borrows elements of video game “bosses” to transform cultural lust into elements of horror and terror. The title is a reference to the original flyer for Afong Moy as an exhibition available for “One Week Only”, advertising her “astonishing little feet” and "Chinese costume”.
